Neil Teitelbaum
B.Eng. (Electrical and Computer Engineering), Registered Patent AgentPrincipal of the firm. A registered patent agent since 1994, with more than 30 years of experience handling Canadian, US, and PCT patent matters, considerable depth in software patent applications, and the ability to file and prosecute directly at the USPTO for Canadian-resident applicants. Neil has drafted and prosecuted over 1,000 successful patent filings across software, communications, robotics, optics, and medical technology.
Neil served as Vice President of Global Intellectual Property for JDS Uniphase from 2000 to 2003. Before that, he was in private practice, where his firm, Neil Teitelbaum and Associates, represented JDS Uniphase, the National Research Council of Canada, the Communications Research Centre, Photonics Research Ontario, the University of Quebec, the Canadian Space Agency, the Alberta Research Council, McGill University, Dew Engineering and Development, Flexicoil, American Biometrics, Chrysalis-ITS Inc., Solidum, and many other high-tech companies, preparing and filing patent applications worldwide.
Neil is a graduate of Ottawa University, with a degree in Electrical (Computer) Engineering. Before his career in patent law, he was a teacher, including two years teaching in Africa while serving as headmaster of a secondary school.
Ashley Burk

After practicing exclusively in intellectual property for a decade with a boutique IP firm, Ashley founded Burk Law with the goal of providing intellectual property services in an easy-to-understand, bold, and unfussy way.
Ashley works with clients to harness the power of IP to advance business, grow revenues, and capture market share. Having represented clients across the fashion, food, cannabis, insurance, high-tech, and biotech industries, she is able to advise on the broader, practical impact of legal decisions on established businesses and startups, resulting in an IP strategy tailored to each company's unique goals. While one goal is to circumvent unnecessary legal battles, clients rely on Burk Law when contentious matters arise.
Ashley's litigation experience includes appearances in trademark and copyright matters before the Canadian Federal Court, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, and the Trademarks Opposition Board, as well as domain name dispute proceedings before WIPO and CIRA.
Ashley holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University of Ottawa and is called to the Ontario bar. Prior to law school, she earned a Bachelor of Engineering in Engineering Physics (B.Eng.) from Carleton University.
Alex Tager
Ph.D., Patent ConsultantGraduated from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MFTI) in 1980, specializing in quantum electronics and solid-state devices. In 1988, he earned a Ph.D. from the Institute of Radio-Engineering and Electronics of the Russian Academy of Science (IRE RAS) in Moscow, where he became a Senior Staff Member in 1988.
From late 1991 to 1995, Alex held Visiting Scientist positions at the Technische Universität Berlin's Institut für Hochfrequenztechnik in Germany and at Cornell University, followed by a Research Associate position at the University of Toronto from 1995 to 1998. In 1998, he joined JDS Uniphase as a Group Leader in the Strategic Research department, and from 2000 to 2003 was a Senior Optical System Designer with Ceyba Incorporated.
